2020 Presidential Candidates Join LULAC in Honoring Exceptional Hispanic Youth

Oldest and largest U.S. Hispanic advocacy organization encourages youth participation by hosting 150 youth programs throughout the country

MILWAUKEE (July 11, 2019) – Today, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) was joined by 2020 presidential candidates Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT); Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI); and Former Representative Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) to honor young members of LULAC who have made positive change in their respective communities.

“The youth here at this Convention have been so inspiring and we are honored to be working closely with them to ensure they have a voice in today’s debates,” said Lindsey Luis, LULAC Youth President. “As the oldest and largest U.S. Hispanic/Latinx advocacy organization, we are committed to encouraging civic participation and empowering the youngest to become engaged and successful leaders of today and tomorrow.”

Throughout its 90 years, LULAC has worked to empower its members, from the youth to the elderly, by providing life-changing opportunities. LULAC provides more than half a million dollars in scholarships to Latinx students each year, conducts citizenship and voter registration drives, develops low-income housing units, conducts youth leadership and mentoring programs, and seeks to empower the Latinx community at the local, state, and national levels.

The Youth & Young Adults Awards Banquet is sponsored by Univision Communication, and is one of the showcase activities LULAC will host during its 90th Annual Convention to support the Youth Agenda. LULAC will host 150 youth programs throughout the week, discussing topics from water safety and climate change, to organizing and civic participation ahead of the 2020 elections. In conjunction with the convention, the LULAC Youth and Collegiate students will hold additional tracks to enhance the skills of our emerging leaders.
